They will usually mimic an area's dominant race, electing to take on a plainer appearance (or whatever is considered average for a setting) in most cases to blend in better.
In a few verses though they are just a human.

■ Their normal appearance (In verses where it's a thing) is normally a vaguely humanoid shadow, with an unnaturally thin body and thin, too long limbs. Their face is normally lacking in disguishable features most of the time, though they may have a number of different eyes, or even no eyes and a mouth.
■ As a human/equivilent; they prefer have a typically androgynous body, with a Runner's build, fairly curveless, and a small chest that's usually bound. They are a short, plain looking person with some muscle (though most of it is in their legs), fair skin, short and unremarkable brown hair (They will sometimes have their style changed or have various lengths or colors depending on what they are presenting as), and grey eyes. What curves they may have they do have normally hidden under thicker or baggy clothes and bindings.
■ Sam mostly tends to dress in more gender-neutral clothing that can make it difficult to figure what gender they may be at the time, and their face and voice don't make it any easier. They may be able to alter their appearance though to present as more masculine or feminine.
